June 2016
Down at New Covent Garden Market, work has really got underway during the first half of 2016 as the first new buildings start to take shape.
Construction work has already begun to build the new Flower Market next to the current entrance on Nine Elms Lane where bright new hoardings are in place to tell the Brand New Covent Garden Market story.
From January 2017 the area will become a temporary home to the new Flower Market until autumn 2022 when they will move to their permanent home at the front of the market, modernising and securing the future of the Flower Market for generations to come.
Construction for this phase kicked off in February this year, with the supporting piles already in place and the steelwork already going up.
Work has also begun on the construction of the market’s new Entrance Plaza, which wil be moving south of the railway line later this summer. In Brand New Covent Garden Market, the new entrance will have five lanes to respond efficiently. The adjacent multi-storey car park has also seen a complete refurbishment, which will finish at the end of July.
